Notes for Walkers from Trimley and Felixstowe Stations
Route finding
You need a basic understanding of maps and ability to follow them. The map shows significant features of the landscape that walkers will meet. Where the way is obvious, less detail is given, but at places where more care may be needed numbered key points give additional help, but these do not form a continuous step-by-step description of the whole route. It is strongly recommended that the OS Explorer map 197 Ipswich, Felixstowe and Harwich is also used.
Stour and Orwell Walk
For the more adventurous, a waymarked 42 mile walk exists between Cattawade to Felixstowe. A guide pack is on sale at local Tourist Information Centres or from the publishers: Suffolk Coast and Heaths Unit (01394 384948). See www.suffolkcoastandheaths.org.
Planning your walk
Time: Allow approximately 30 minutes per mile of walking, adding on time for refreshment breaks.
Map: OS Explorer sheet 197 Ipswich, Felixstowe and Harwich
Refreshment: most of the routes are in remote countryside, so be sure to carry enough refreshments for the whole of your walk, especially drink. Pubs, shops and cafes in Trimley villages, Felixstowe Ferry and Felixstowe seafront and town centre.
